Whole-home humidifiers install directly onto your furnace, adding moisture to the air distribution during winter heating. Bypass, powered, and steam models from Aprilaire, Honeywell and Skuttle for various home sizes and humidity control needs.
Why humidify
Cold outdoor air holds very little moisture. When furnaces heat that dry outdoor air to comfortable indoor temperatures, the relative humidity crashes — often to 15-20% in Las Vegas homes. Ideal indoor humidity is 35-45%.
Below 30% relative humidity, symptoms show up: dry skin and eyes, static shocks, cracking hardwood floors, musical instruments detuning, house plants dying, and increased susceptibility to respiratory infections (dry air compromises the mucous membrane defenses).
A whole-home humidifier ties directly into the furnace ductwork and adds moisture to the air stream during heating cycles. A digital humidistat maintains a set humidity level (we recommend 40% for Las Vegas winter). Simple, low-maintenance, and immediately noticeable. Related in Las Vegas: furnace repair.

Home square footage measured, current indoor humidity checked, humidifier type recommended (bypass for tight budgets, powered for larger homes, steam for the highest control).
Line-item quote covers unit, humidistat, water supply line, drain line if required, controls integration with furnace and thermostat.
Humidifier mounted to furnace return-air duct or plenum, cold water supply run and connected, drain line plumbed, 24V control wiring to humidistat and thermostat.
Humidistat programmed for 40% RH target, humidifier cycled through a demonstration run, filter/pad access shown for future replacement, warranty registered.
Choosing the right type
BYPASS: least expensive ($650-$950 installed). Passive design that uses the furnace blower to move air through a wet evaporator pad. Good for homes up to 2,500 sq ft with tight envelope. Requires a drain.
POWERED: mid-range ($900-$1,400). Has its own fan to push more moisture through the ductwork. Better for larger homes (2,500-4,000 sq ft) or leakier envelopes. Requires a drain.
STEAM: premium option ($1,300-$1,600). Actively boils water to produce steam, delivers precise humidity control. Best for homes with very dry winter conditions, or homes with hardwood floors sensitive to humidity swings. Higher operating cost but best comfort control. Related in Las Vegas: furnace repair.

Kids and I were getting static shocks constantly and hardwood floors were starting to shrink. Installed an Aprilaire bypass humidifier and within a week humidity was up to 40% and stayed there. Simple install, quiet operation.
Wanted precise humidity control to protect a grand piano. They recommended a steam humidifier over bypass. Piano tuner confirmed the piano is holding its tune much better through winter now.
3,500 sq ft home, bypass wouldn't have kept up. They installed a Honeywell powered humidifier tied into the smart thermostat. Humidity graphed on the app stays right at 42% all winter.
Wanted a humidifier but worried about condensation on our older windows. Their tech set the humidistat conservatively at 35% and showed us how to bump it up gradually. No condensation, and dry air symptoms are gone.
