Direct-vent gas fireplace inserts and linear gas fireplaces from Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Regency and Valor. certified install with proper venting, gas line sizing and mantel finishing. From wood-to-gas conversions to new builds.
Insert vs new build
Two common paths: dropping a gas insert into an existing masonry wood-burning fireplace, or building a new direct-vent linear fireplace on an exterior wall. Insert conversions cost less ($4,500-$7,500) because the chimney and hearth already exist. New direct-vent builds ($7,500-$14,000) offer more design flexibility — linear glass fronts, mantel styling, and placement anywhere on an exterior wall.
Modern direct-vent fireplaces are highly efficient (70-83% AFUE) because they draw combustion air from outside and vent through a sealed pipe. They can be zoned as supplemental heat for the room they're in, cutting furnace runtime for the rest of the house during shoulder seasons.
For homes with existing gas lines running to the basement (for furnace or water heater), extending a gas line to the fireplace location typically costs $400-$800. Homes without existing gas service need a new gas line run from the meter — $1,200-$2,500 depending on distance.

Zoned supplemental heat
The efficiency benefit of gas fireplaces isn't just the fireplace's AFUE — it's the ability to heat just one room instead of the whole house. In shoulder seasons (October, April, early May), running the fireplace in the living room while turning the whole-house thermostat down 4-5°F cuts furnace runtime dramatically.
For Las Vegas homes with open-plan living areas, a well-sized fireplace can supply enough heat to keep the main floor comfortable most spring and fall evenings without the furnace running at all. Winter still needs the furnace as primary heat, but the fireplace continues to supplement.
Ambience matters too. Modern gas fireplaces with realistic log sets or linear ribbon burners look convincingly like wood fireplaces without the mess, effort or emissions. Remote control turns them on and off in seconds. Related in Las Vegas: furnace repair.

Old wood fireplace was gorgeous but we never used it — too much cleanup. They installed a Napoleon gas insert that looks great with the flame set high and heats the living room enough that we turn the furnace down 3°F on winter evenings.
Building a modern linear gas fireplace on the exterior wall was a coordination project — HVAC, drywall, tile finisher. They ran the venting and gas line cleanly and coordinated timing with our contractor. End result is stunning.
Second-property cottage needed a reliable heat source we could turn on remotely before arriving. Installed a Valor direct-vent with Wi-Fi control. Cottage is warm within an hour of remote start.
Wanted the wood-fireplace look without the wood. Regency gas insert with log set is convincingly realistic. Remote control means we actually use it every evening in fall and spring.
