Las Vegas central AC installation — right-sized, quiet condensers, 10-yr warranty

Central air conditioning from Rheem, Lennox, Carrier, Bryant and Trane — sized for Las Vegas's humidity and cooling load using a Manual J calculation. R-410A refrigerant. SEER 15-18 range for the sweet spot on efficiency vs cost.

  • Manual J sizing before quote
  • R-410A refrigerant · 10-year parts warranty
  • Coil, condenser, refrigerant lines and startup

Right-sized cooling

Manual J-sized Las Vegas HVAC lasts 15+ years

The dominant myth in AC installs is 'bigger is better.' It isn't. An AC that's too big for the house cools the space too fast, cycles off before dehumidifying, and leaves you with a cool-but-clammy room. In Las Vegas's humid summer, that's a comfort disaster and it drives up your hydro bill because the compressor takes the biggest current draw at startup.

The Manual J load calculation identifies the actual cooling BTU needed. For a 2,000 sq ft two-storey home in Las Vegas, that's typically 30,000-36,000 BTU (2.5-3 tons), not the 48,000 BTU (4 ton) the previous contractor recommended. Running a properly-sized 3-ton AC saves 15-25% on cooling costs and dries the air properly.

For homes considering both AC and heating upgrades, look at cold-climate heat pumps which handle both jobs and qualify for federal + provincial rebates that a straight AC install doesn't. Related in Las Vegas: heat pump repair.

Install day

How your Las Vegas HVAC install or service call works — four steps, no surprises

  1. Manual J load calc

45-minute assessment measures cooling load: square footage, window U-value, insulation, orientation, infiltration. Written report shows the calculated tonnage.

  2. Written quote

Line-item quote covers condenser, indoor coil, refrigerant lines, thermostat, disposal, permit fees. Rebate eligibility flagged if applicable. Valid 30 days.

  3. Install day

Old condenser and coil removed. New condenser set on pad, refrigerant lines run and vacuum-purged, coil installed on furnace plenum, R-410A charged to spec.

  4. Commission + walkthrough

Refrigerant pressures verified, temperature drop measured across coil, thermostat programmed, condensate line tested. Post-install walkthrough shows filter location and warranty registration.

SEER matters —

The SEER 15-18 sweet spot for Las Vegas

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures cooling efficiency. Minimum in Canada is SEER 14 for new equipment. Higher SEER means lower operating cost but higher purchase price — and the payback isn't linear.

For Las Vegas's typical 60-80 cooling days per year, SEER 15-18 hits the sweet spot: meaningfully more efficient than the SEER 13 units you're replacing, without the $2,000-$3,000 upcharge for SEER 22+ variable-speed units. Payback on the SEER 15-18 range is 4-6 years vs 12-15+ for the highest-end units.

Variable-speed SEER 20+ ACs make sense in specific cases: homes over 3,000 sq ft, homes with severe humidity issues, or homes in a full 15-20 year commitment. For most Las Vegas residents, SEER 16 is the smart choice. Related in Las Vegas: AC installation, AC repair, and free quote.

Las Vegas HVAC installation air conditioner installation questions answered

Standard 2.5-3 ton SEER 15-16 install with existing furnace and ductwork: $3,800-$5,500. SEER 18+ variable-speed: $5,500-$7,500. Adding a new coil for an existing furnace adds $600-$900. New ductwork if needed: $1,500-$4,000 quoted separately.
Standard swap-out with existing lines and coil compatibility: 4-6 hours, done in one visit. New refrigerant lines through walls: adds 3-4 hours. Combined furnace + AC install: full day.
Usually yes — labour is shared for the ductwork and thermostat work. Combined install typically saves $400-$700 vs separate visits. Only exception: if AC has 3+ years of remaining life and the coil is still R-410A compatible, keep it.
SEER 15-16 for typical Las Vegas homes hits the efficiency-cost sweet spot. SEER 18 makes sense if you run AC most of the summer or have a large home. SEER 20+ variable-speed only pays off in specific scenarios — we'll tell you honestly.

Got three quotes and theirs was the only one that actually did a load calc before quoting. Recommended a smaller tonnage than the others, saved us $1,200 upfront and the house cools evenly all summer now.

Bundled our AC install with the furnace replacement. One-day install, clean work, and they honored the estimated timeline. Rebate paperwork went in the day after.

Our older Las Vegas home doesn't have ducts. They recommended a multi-zone mini-split setup instead of retrofitting ducts. Total cost was less than the duct retrofit would have been.

Manage a duplex in Las Vegas. Needed the AC installed between tenants — 3-day window. They scheduled around it, did clean work, invoicing matched the quote exactly.
